In the Husun advert the cost of a sextant is quoted as about 42 pounds sterling. If I assume that in 1928 NZ used sterling then I can use the Reserve Bank of NZ inflation calculator to convert that into $NZ5,000 in today's money. Mr Google then converts that into $US3,000. For a precision tool of the trade this price seems reasonable.
