Sam,
The 2102-D pin is not the weak link. I've used one hard for 35 years and the only failure was the 35° latitude template hole which split requiring clear taping over the old hole followed by punching a new hole the correct size to fit the pin.

Many of you have modified the 2102-d to suit your purposes.
Now I'll have to make a first surface mirror AH.
