I cannot see either of the two battery containers in the photos. It is possible they are in the box and out of sight. One is to illuminate the bubble and the other the scale. Very often corosion has fused them to the body of the instrument.
Thanks for the reply. I have asked the seller several additional questions but given his first reply ("sorry we are not experts in this field") I am not confident of a meaningful reply.
My aim is to take the sexant out of the box and do some three body fixes immediately. I will then reduce the sights with a selection of the tables in my book collection. Probably I should click the "Buy" button next time I look at the Celestaire site. When I convert the cost of a reconditioned A12 to $NZ, add freight and (if Customs asks for it) 15% GST I immediately close the cart page down! But a reconditioned A12 probably costs less than most people would spend on an iphone or a Mac or a fancy TV...............
