I recondition B&L A8-A and AN5854-1 sextants for sale and have not encountered a problen w/ the radium paint. I do not scrape off the paint. Ater sealing the lenses, I leave the lucite ring

and its metal cover w/ the paint intact. The metal cover effectively seals in the paint.

BTW, all Bendix sextants also have radium paint but do not have electrical bubble lighting for star sights, which the B&L sextants do.
