They don't bite :). And I bet you already have one. As you discovered, and mentioned later in your message, you made a NavList Operations contribution via PayPal on August 7, 2021 at about 5:00pm Eastern US time. That was tied to your xtra.co email address. And again, thank you very much for that! You're under no obligation to contribute this time around. Don't create a PayPal account if you don't want to. But you may want to check and see, for your own interest, if you do already have an account. Probably the simplest way to check this is to visit the PayPal website and ask to do a password reset. Enter your standard email address. They will then send a reset link if you do, in fact, have an account.

Ah, that rings a bell! We definitely discussed this two years ago. :) Although the US remains one of the biggest advocates of "naked capitalism" and although this thriving economy created "Silicon Valley", it is also still home to an independent, individualistic attitude that sometimes becomes arrogant and ignorant but mostly just keeps one foot in traditional economics and technology... you know, paper checks, gold under the mattress, and maybe something just in case the GPS fails. Hey, look at that... I managed to bring this back to celestial navigation!

"Maybe I set up a temporary paypal account?"
Maybe you created an actual account. If you did, it's almost certainly still available to you. PayPal accounts are very simple things with little impact. They don't bite! Another possibility is that PayPal, or financial regulators in NZ, removed the option of paying without an account in New Zealand. Maybe it was possible to send money without creating an account two years ago, but is no longer possible. Anyway, see above. :)
