Accuracy of the first Nautical Almanacs
    From: Don Seltzer
    Date: 2015 Apr 21, 13:35 -0400

In another forum, a poster was wondering,

'I had wondered about the practical challenges of producing the *Nautical
Almanac* -- such an extensive compilation of numbers requiring absolute
accuracy, produced from complex mathematical calculations, in an era when
almost everything had to be done by hand. ...
I wonder if anyone has gone back through the first decades of the *Almanac*,
and with the aid of modern electronic resources checked just how accurate
it was. The answer, either way, would surely be fascinating.'
