    So if (big if) the camera can stabilize relative to all rotational accelerations, then it will automatically track the stars.

    So that brings up the question, what will happen when the camera takes terrestrial shots, say of a horizon scene at night, just as with Tom Sult's image upthread?  The terrestrial part will be trailed!  Will the camera manufacturers get complaints about this?  There is no real solution to be had---either the camera firmware tracks purely inertially, or sidereally, but not both.
