An Interesting History of Air Navigation Seminar in the UK

I don’t know if NavList allows ads, but I offer this because it involves the History of Air Navigation, and it might be of interest to our active and ‘silent’ UK members.  It might also be of interest to any other member passing through the UK around the 8th of October.  2015. Dave

The East Midlands Branch and the History of Air Navigation Special Interest Group of the Royal Institution of Navigation Presents
HANG North Thursday 8th October 2015
This year’s HANG North, the Royal Institute of Navigation’s History of Air Navigation Group’s Northern Seminar, will be held at Newark Air Museum on Thursday 8th October 2015.  We’ve tried to select a venue convenient to all.  It’s just off the AI; it’s only an 85 minute train journey from Kings Cross; and it’s a £7.00 taxi ride from the railway station.  Bus travel is also possible for the adventurous.
This year, we’ll be concentrating on the Origins of Long Range Flying in the RAF; the Aries Flights to the Polar Regions; and the Development of Inertial Navigation.  The morning will be devoted to self exploration around the Air Museum, so there’s no strict arrival time; any time after 10.00 AM will do.  We hope to provide hosted entry to the Hastings, the Varsity, the Vulcan, and the Shackleton.  There’ll be time for tea or coffee in the morning and the same in the afternoon, plus a buffet lunch under the Varsity, all included in the price.
The talks will begin after lunch in the ‘Dambusters Hut’ at 1.30PM.  Wg Cdr Jeff Jefford will enlighten us on RAF Long Range Flights up to 1939, Gp Capt David Broughton will describe the RAF Aries Flights to the North Pole in the days following WW2, and Air Cdre Norman Bonnor will describe The Development of Inertial Navigation in the RAF.
All this, and we’ve been able to keep the price down to £25 (£45 for couples).  Payment must be “in advance”.  There’s only space for 40 delegates, and 23 people have already indicated their intention of attending, so hurry, hurry, hurry, book your place now by contacting Sally-Anne Cooke on 020 7591 3135 conference@rin.org.uk or Dave Pike emids@rin.org.uk
    Payment Methods:
    Card:  Call Sally-Anne 020 7591 3135 with Card Details
Internet Banking: Send £25 or £45 to The RIN 20-06-05 10490881 using the reference “your surname HNorth” (Surname first in case of field length problems), so HQ know who sent it and what it’s for.  Then, please email emids@rin.org.uk  to tell us what you’ve done, so we know who’s coming.
Cheques or Cash:  Contact Dave PikeEmail emids@rin.org.uk for further instructions.
    Dietary/Mobility Restrictions:  Contact Dave Pike emids@rin.org.uk .
