A couple of friends and I got press credential for the first shuttle launch- Ctein had contracts with Sky and Telescope and a magazine called Future Life.
We drove in my van from the SF Bay area, and ended up on the backside of the countdown clock mentioned below.
After the shuttle launched, we drove to Edwards in time to see the shuttle land.
Ctein got the cover and some photos in the January 1981 S&T.
