Hi, I do not know where Earhart's aircraft rests. However, the New Britain Island and Buka Island hypotheses do not assume she crashed shortly after takeoff. The theory is sometime after passing Nauru Island, where she reported seeing the mining lights, she realizes head winds aloft are eating up too much fuel. So, she turns around and tries to return to the airport at Buka or dry land somewhere.
