I made an Astrolabe as a kid. I think I used the compass rose from an old chart as a template for the angle scale and it was made of wood. It was rubbish of course, but maybe just as bad as a fancy brass one. I am sure it is easier today with a good laser printer. Obviously you can 3D print components but no where near the precision of a 2D laser printer, and I could make wooden things fairly precisely then!
