I have a PC program called "Shadows", which can be used to design and assemble astrolabes and sundials of all sorts. However, to be honest, I'm not familiar with the astrolabe functions because they are mostly limited to the "Pro" version, which costs 50€ (US$53). But if the sundial functions are any indication, I'm sure the astrolabe functions are perfectly adequate.
Given my own interest in astrolabes, I should probably just buy the pro version. It would be fun to make a working astrolabe, even if I only made it out of paper. But I'm sure one could use the printouts/bitmaps/vector images as templates for wood or even metal construction.
Cheers!
