I love clocks as well, but if my life depended on it, I would go with a solar powered, atomic synchronized watch. Mine (Citizen Eco-drive Navihawk) is so accurate that even without the synchro it gains less than a second a month.*

Prices have jumped on mechanical clocks and watches :( It may be worth a chance getting an 8 day aircraft clock on Ebay that's not running and having it overhauled.
