The nav equipment on my old yacht have been honed down based on space constraints, keeping things simple and what I think are the bare essentials. Yes, I have GPS but I assume it will fail soon enough so I go prepared.
1. Hand bearing compass and small pair binoculars.
2. Plotting sheets, dividers, weems and plath rolling parallel rule.
3. Astra III B sextant.
4. Reeds astro tables. This combines a nautical almanac with sight reduction tables.
5. Traverse tables.
6.Relevant paper charts.
I made my own traverse tables to avoid having to carry Nories, which is a heavy volume. All up, the above materials are lightweight and easily accessed. The trickiest storage is for the sextant box.
