Hello Darcy - several years back I wrote to Bill Morris about his reproduction MHR1 (German version of the Bygrave) and I wrote an article about it here on his web blog: A reproduction MHR1 Position Line Slide Rule | The Nautical Sextant (sextantbook.com)
Sadly, it appears most of the useful links at the end no longer work, but there might be enough to search NavList (especially for Gary LaPook's Bygrave work) and a lot of the previously referenced sites still exist:
PositionLineSlideRules.pdf (rechenschieber.org)
SlideRule (friendsofthevigilance.org.uk)
C:\Users\GLAPOOK\Documents\Navigation\Bygrave\Bygrave explanation.wpd (navlist.net)
Unfortunately, Gary LaPook's excellent google site freddienoonan appears to be unreachable. Bing does not provide an alternative, I'm afraid.
Since that time, I have become acquainted with the magic of 3D printing - if you cannot find the correct diameter paper tubes, 3D printed tubes may be an alternative.
