Good luck, Darcy, with your proposed build of a Bygrave slide rule.
I'm not a handyman myself, so cannot help directly with technique or source of tubes, etc, though there are many posts on NavList that will help.
In the meantime you might like to get the look and feel from my Bygrave emulator or my emulator of Gary's "Modern Bygrave slide rule"
