There's a long list of problems with the most recent edition of Bowditch. The issue you cite, trying for gender-neutral prose, does not rank on that list. Poorly-written clumsy prose has, however, been a problem in Bowditch for decades, and it's getting worse.
As to the rest of your paranoid rant about sexism and political correctness, you are wasting your time and debasing the conversation here. Three concluding words for you: go to hell.
