Frank and David, many thanks for your recommendations. I was able to find a copy the 1958 edition in good shape at a reasonable price (meaning under US$ 50.00, not the incredibly low cost of David's copy). A quick look at the AbeBooks website showed me that 19th century editions are affordable only by well-heeled bibliophiles, unless the book is in very poor condition. Although I'm of the generation which still prefers printed copies to PDF versions, I’m going to opt for free downloads if / when I wish to travel that far back in time.
Kind regards,
Rafael
