Yes, I understand now. Thank you. Turns out I did need to stare at it just a little more. Like a flash of lightning it hit me: this angle measures the distance between the G.P. and the A.P., therefore it is equal to the zenith distance of the body. Now I am trying to figure out if this method can be applied to a G.P. and A.P. which are in different hemispheres. So far, my experiments seem to indicate that it cannot. But I am content to wait for the arrival of the book so that I can perhaps gain a better understanding of this method's limitations. Thanks again for taking the time to help.
