I am so sorry to hear of health news, Francis. I'm sure fellow NavListers will share my feelings of compassion and wish you every hope and comfort. You have posted on NavList 584 times this millennium and there will surely be more to follow.
I have pressed the "Buy it now" button on eBay for your beloved Bygrave. I feel sure that it would otherwise fall into the hands of a dealer and become lost to the community of navigators, possibly at a lesser price too. I will call you at a reasonable hour tomorrow - I would love to come and collect it at a mutually convenient time and to hear of your past experiences.
As you know, I wrote a Bygrave slide rule emulator web page without ever having seen one. (Link below) The attached photograph of the concept mock-up that I used will raise a chuckle. I made it from two toilet roll cores and a container of disc chocolates!
