We all like to hear about these old gems, so I'm passing this along:
A lady with a sextant to sell contacted me via the San Diego Maritime Institute where I've been teaching celestial navigation. It is a C. Plath #14809 that her father purchased in Germany in 1936 when he was there at the Olympics as one of the U.S. 8 Metre sailing team. To her knowledge, it was used only once in a transpacific race in which he crewed.
She sent the following link that shows a 1935 with a lower serial # 14215, sold by Robert White Co. http://www.robertwhite.com/cgi-local/shop.pl?type=categ&categ=rw_celestial
Photos of the mirrors and scope show them to be in nice shape. If you are interested in exploring a purchase, contact Carolyn Morrow 760-751-1524, kakiecnm@aol.com
