Following up on my last reply (as yet unposted), attached is a CHU sound clip received with the DIY regenerative radio after the sun has gone down and 80 meter propagation has improved. The "band has opened" in Ham speak. Signal to noise is vastly improved. Out of sight in the radio image (1st post) are 3 x 1.5V batteries, and there is a 9V battery in the (optional) audio amplifier. I suppose you could call it "portable".
One more thought on the "apacolypse"... that source of transistors is is ideally leaded thru-hole components from the 1950's to 1980'a (90's?). Today's 0402 surface mount components are not so easy to transplant. Do Quaker Oats still come in a round cardboard "can". That was the defactor inductor form when I was a kid. That or a plastic pill bottle. 35mm film cans aren't so common either.
