I have never found many references to Rude, the one the star finder is named after. Perhaps others on the NavList know of him.

Here is a Wikipedia page on Captain Gilbert T. Rude. As for why the starfinder received the particular designation of 2102-D, I believe that was discussed some time ago on NavList. I'll have to see if I can dig up the post.
