The 2102D is far more robust. The overlays on the CP-300/U are much more fragile and tear easily right at the slot.
I note that there has not been an answer to your "black arrow" question. Would you take a picture, somehow highlighting it? I will see if I can answer for you.

Looks like I'll buy a 2102-D too, and also try hacking a proper star glode off a New Year Fir Tree decoration ball (they are plastic today, quite capable of being used in CN).
