I'd be amazed if one could calculate sun declination in their head. The GHA aries was based on correcting a linearly increasing function for a small differences in rates of the slope. Sun Dec is decidedly non linear. To first approximation, if not exactly, it is sinusoidal in time and no such scheme will work.
