Following on from NicolaB’s interesting question about which of two sextants to buy in relation to their existing calibration certificates, and pinching my title from Harold Gatty’s ‘Finding Your Way Without Map or Compass’ I’ve a feeling that with appropriate lunar distance tables, a radio signal controlled clock, a 4 or 6x telescope, and your exact position on Earth it ought to be possible by back working to ‘Calibrate Your Sextant Without Horizon or Collimator’
The question is, how? A worked example would be appreciated.
