The hardware they used is very obsolete and no longer available. You can get them used on auction sites. The Almanac is in the non-volitile memory on the program card so it can't be erased. I have seen reports that the computer hardware has failed with some users, so there is that consideration.
While I have one and like using it, the Starpath software on the TI line of calculators is better,and since it's on more modern hardware, probably a lot more reliable at this point.
