I am working a little about this approach. My own appli Astrolab v3 is already running with Androïd (including ephemerids and a direct positioning algorithm)
But the quality of the optics of a smartphone is not very good. More significant corrections must be added than with a classical camera, especially for small focus length.
One of the probem is to be sure that the smartphone find again the same characteristics every time you put it at its minimum focus.
My goal is to get a full fix with a smartphone, without any external help (or data). I think it is possible with combinations of the Sun, the Moon, Venus, Mars and Jupiter.
To be followed...
