I use OpenCPn.
Jeremy is (I hope I get this right) commercial merchant marine, and thus the cost of a top end chartplotter is miniscule compared to other costs. I have zip intention of speaking for Jeremy, however, as he certainly can do that for himself.
Andrés Ruiz, found right here, attempted to add some sanity to the OpenCPN project when it attempted to incorporate CN. I don't think the OpenCPN folks were very understanding. I recall they expected a practitioner of CN to 'know', with absolute certainty, the azimuth of a celestial body. How is beyond me.
The simple way to put a CN fix into OpenCPN is to simply add a waypoint at the fix OR, in the absence of GPS data, simply move own ship to the fix. It's a trivial thing.
