I have for the last 2 hours scoured the internet for articles on whether the military still teach astro - and the navy certainly does - including the RN, RAN.

Does the Air Force - yes I believe they still actively use and practice astro - here is a good article and reason to continue to use it.

And I found an article from a retired Navy sub guy - saying they fried their central avionics and the ship navigation went with it - and they had to crack out the sextant to realign - and the only just got a sun shot but were ready to throw the sextant overboard - suggesting that the practice of the art was woefully behind the need.
