For what it is worth, my 'expedition chronometer' these days is a quartz pocket watch from Gotham Watch company which retails at around $45. I put the watch in a box along with a label with the setting date and a note of its rate.

It is analog as that is a personal preference and it keeps good time. In fact, the timekeeping of this watch is nothing short of phenomenal! I tried to rate it back in August of last year, but I was unable to detect any rate on this watch. I set it on the 1st of September and now, six months later, it is still dead-beat!
This is undoutedly a fluke. You would not expect a relatively cheap clock of this sort to be so accurate.
