Thank you, John Clements for your praise of my book, "The Nautical Sextant." The publishers wished me to limit the length to ensure saleability. It was largely for this reason that I started my blog "sextantbook.com" , to expand on what I had already written and to add information as I learned more. I have given a fairly extensive account of the USN Mark II sextant and its design oddities in my post for 30 November 2010.
