Joint Pub 3-50 was relegated to the dust heap of history in early 2000.
At that time the U.S. adopted the International Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue Manual, referred to in the SAR Community as the IAMSAR Manual. The current edition is dated 2016, and later this month it will be replaced by the 2019 edition.
The United States Supplement to the IAMSAR tailors it to the U.S. The United States Coast Guard Addendum to the SAR Supplement tailors both SAR manuals to the Maritime environment. Both the SAR Supplement and the Addendum are available via the internet. Also available via the internet are the Inland SAR Addendum, and the Catastrophic Incident Addendum.
The copyright to the IAMSAR Manual is jointly held by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO). They are available for purchase at vendors of maritime publications – they are expensive!
