I meant to comment on this earlier, but I quite forgot! You mention Bowditch here... I do hope you're not trying to learn celestial navigation from Bowditch. While it has some value as an encyclopedia --a list of topics, definitions, rules, etc., it's just awful as a textbook. And despite its absurd reputation as the Bible of Navigation, especially from a few decades ago in the USN, modern editions of Bowditch also have many errors and misplaced emphases. If you already know this, no problem, but I'm also throwing this advice out there for other newcomers who may be attracted to Bowditch by ts anecdotal reputation.
