I am a big fan of Nories. Find it much easier to use than Bowdich.

Over the Christmas/New Year holidays I treated myself to some navigation books. More on that later.
One of the books is Inman's Nautical Tables Designed for the use of British Seaman. That set me thinking. In the 1930s 80% or more of shipping was British. Today it is probably a very small number. How many British navigating/engineering officers are there today. I would not be surprised if it was a few hundred, down from tens or hundreds of thousands a century ago.
