Neither battery holder in my A-12 would hold a new C battery. I planned to buy an AA to C adapter and turn it down but most seemed to be thin snap-together shells. I found a solid looking adapter under "Battery Adapter AA to C" offered by Jon_James_allen in New York and he said he could change the size, in mm, if I'd ask in the "contact the seller" when I ordered. I asked for 24 mm OD with everything else the same. That gives about a 0.050" clearance on the diameter for four adapters for under $10 with USPS shipping inside the U.S..
