    A really great post!  I was not aware of PAA's very eary involvement in RDF but it certainly makes sense given their pioneering transoceaniac flight routes. Also, I had not seen this particular issue of the Army Air Forces Training Command manual. A quick glance at the RDF section with illustrations of how the Adcock antennas worked cleared up another mystery for me - why there was a fifth antenna in the middle of the other four. It was for voice communication.
