I own two Kollsman periscopic bubble sextants, and I consider them very well built and very accurate. To support them I use a transit tripod with a levelling head and have customed machined a mount for each type of bubble sextant I own. A small sand bag on a tripod would probably work as well and would be much easier to construct.
