Suggestions thus far range from thin coats of Vaseline, nose oil, rubbing with cigarette tobacco, spit/finger rub, nose rubs and yes, erasers.
You are lucky. Your cockpit vintage CelNav techniques are out-of-sight of passengers. Using the Polhemus helps too by giving the practice a touch of science and mollifies your first officer.
