I was appalled to see what looked like a fine Celestaire sextant so cruelly mistreated by being placed legs up on the chart table! I was pleased to see that Ballard vindicates Gary Lapook who has said all along that it was not on Gardner and sure enough it wasn't. From what I remember Gary had come up with a convincing argument that had them ditching in the cloud cover to the north of Howland Island but I could be wrong about that though. I would like to ask whether the RDF observations can be reconciled with that conclusion,
