I want to thank the many NavListers who responded to my query. Extremely useful suggestions.
Several suggested mounts or otherwise very careful bubble/object alignment. As a result, I made a simple wood bracket that sits on a table top or my camera tri-pod. See the attached pictures.
Again, I greatly appreciate your advice and shared experiences.
