Love your idea for the social media experiment using simple zenith tube (could we also fit a camera below tube to capture pictures? (for those, like me not so good at star recognition).
How about the lunar eclipse 28th September?
Unfortunately, middle of the night here in Penzance, but if we had several observations from across US and Europe, maybe you could build that chart? (and maybe we can work out rough longitudes too?)
