of my beautiful Troughton and Simms (1830's sextant. May I brag? I was able to get one shot off before clouds rolled in of the Venus-Jupiter separation. Now, I know it's beginner's luck, but calculations gave 2 deg 9 min 32 sec and I got (wait for it).... 2 deg 9 min 30 sec. (I know, I know- don't be a buzzkiller).
Can't wait to try again tomorrow night.
One serious problem- shake. Is there a trick? It might have been the jaunty angle the arc made with vertical, but, boy, it was tough. Had a lowish power telescope. can't imagine using any higher. Any thoughts? Drugs?
