I gave up trying to open mine up – the threaded rings seemed to be welded to the housing. Perhaps they were glued shut to improve sealing… Is there any magic solvent that will help?

Subject: [NavList] Re: Fluids for Bubble Sextants and Sealing Methods
When I restore Link A-12 bubble sextants, I follow the manufacturer's specifications and use xylene. The bubble chambers must be clean internally and the white lead oxidation around the seals should be scraped off. Then you can paint a ring of clear shellac to insure seal. Also be sure to seal the filler plug bristol screw after tightening. Don' forget to insert the ball bearing in the filler port.
