That looks like a very fine instrument! And I would say you got a great deal. That instrument could have easily sold for twice or three times that amount, even on ebay. You can certainly adjust it yourself, as long as there are no serious problems. Even as it stands, it's quite accurate. I just used your sextant to determine your location from over 2500 miles away. See the image.
Ha! That's GPS accuracy from a 60-year-old sextant.
