Hi Geoff,
I added a matching base. With three rubber feet so I could put it on a car without scratching the paint. Mine are only about 5” x 6” but I use smaller mirrors and get closer.
I used 1/4-20 x 1 1/2” stainless screws in tapped holes in the plastic. I had to run the taps in and out a few times to open up the threads to make them just finger tight.
The top screws are ground to a point and fit into three shallow holes in the base to prevent it walking around as the screws are turned.
The approximate “compass” on the top was intended to help me with star finding but I usually just use the sun.
