On the course someone asked if I made a video of finding the verticies of the ellipse given the major and minor axes and I remembered I did actually put it on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e-sXAdHNHg . I think once you have a rectangle that encloses the ellipse you can visualise what the ellipse looks like pretty well and draw it free hand if you like. Also you can get construct the focal points by striking an arc with radius semi major axis from a minor vertex, and where this crosses teh makor acis is a focal point. If you want to draw the ellipse with the two pins and a string method you are all set.
