    Last GGR they had to have an "SSB" radio, ie an MF/HF tranceiver and an RDF set. I gave Pat Lawless an RDF set for his attempt.  They had to carry one, but we discussed how it might be used. Suppose you are approaching Cape Horn and you have not seen a clear sky for many days so you are uncertain of your latitude. Bearings on AM broadcast stations might help as you approach. He only got as far as the Cape of Good Hope but will try again next time.
