I wrote an explanation of what I did, see the attachment.
While working on it I found the same figure can probably be used for determining Azimuth, rising setting times in terms of LHA, azimuth at (sun)set / (sun(rise) and fixing a position by a single tryfold observation (Hc by sextant or horizon, bearing by compass and time by watch). All that is needed is an empty piece of paper, a ruler, a pair of dividers and a protractor. No tables, no preprinted aid.
The attached explanation for now just handles Hc, but the rest will follow shortly. A start is at the end of the present document, setting out the direction of using the same diagram for determining the azimuth.
