I have been waiting for posts about the Great Conjuction and the Solstice but so far there has not been anything. I will therefore tell you of my experience. It was a disaster!
I determined that the solstice would be at about 11pm local time. I then checked the position of Jupiter and discovered that it would be setting. Hence I would not be able to observe the conjunction exactly at the solstice. More frustrating for the past few days we have had 8/8ths cloud cover and yesterday was no different. I was therefore unable to observe the conjuction at any time. Looking at the forecast for the next seven days the cloud cover will continue. Unfortunately Cloudy Weather Johnson's little booklet will not be of any help!
Finally - I decided to join Frank's meeting. At 11am local time I tried to logon but the meeting was not open. I made several attempts over the next ten minutes or so but no luck. Later in the day I remembered that I had not allowed for daylight saving time!!!!!
